As we celebrate the International Day of Yoga in 2024, I am filled with immense gratitude. A time for reflection on the profound impact yoga has had on my life and the lives of many others. Particularly given 2024 has been one the toughest years of my life so far. Yoga is a journey of:

Transformation;
Raising consciousness;
Self-discovery; and
Inner happiness through reduced suffering.,

My Personal Journey: From Smoking to Serenity:

My journey with yoga began as a quest for physical fitness. Sweating out toxins and calories with Bikram yoga in 2011. It soon evolved into a powerful tool for mental and emotional transformation. One of the most significant changes yoga brought into my life was helping me quit smoking. I had struggled with this habit for years. It seemed like an insurmountable challenge. Yet, through consistent practice and mindfulness. Plus the nurturing environment of community. I found the strength to let go of this destructive habit. Something I thought was impossible.

The practice of yoga taught me to listen to my body. Understand my cravings, and develop healthier coping mechanisms. This went beyond the yoga mat. Beyond the stereotype and misunderstanding of what yoga truly is. Yoga poses are not necessary to do this.

Gradually, I felt empowered to make better choices for my health and well-being. I am a work in progress. Everyone is. Each day my practice evolves further.

The benefits of yoga extend far beyond the physical. I have seen firsthand how yoga can transform mental health.  

It provides a holistic approach to well-being, addressing the mind, body, and spirit. 

As I continue my studies to become a yoga therapist, I am excited to help others on their journey to wellness. Yoga therapy offers personalised practices tailored to individual needs.  Rather than a cookie cutter approach of group classes. Or practices that are not accessible to many. Making it a powerful tool for addressing specific health challenges.

This International Day of Yoga, I encourage you to explore how yoga can benefit your health. Whether you're a seasoned practitioner. Or a beginner, there's always something new to learn and experience. Let this day be a reminder of the transformative power of yoga and its potential to heal and uplift.

Join me in celebrating this special day by rolling out your mat. Taking a diaphragmatic breath, and embracing the journey of yoga. Together, we can create a world where health is nurtured.  Celebrated through the practice of yoga.
