Sleep is an important part of mental health. If we don't get enough adequate and quality sleep, our health suffers. It's been linked to increased stress levels (excess cortisol production). Nowadays, I have a set of tools and practice good sleep hygiene to ensure this is part of my self care plan.

But it's wasn't always like this.

I used to go to evening yoga classes or classes at the gym and wonder why I couldn't sleep. I also relied on 4 anti histamine tablets to get to sleep at night, then got frustrated at how groggy I got in the morning. As a result my mood was low. I struggled to get going. Then, I would stock up on black coffee as a result. This did not do my adrenals any good. It also didn't help my anxiety. It was a domino effect.

I didn't realise there were other things I could do. Once I changed my yoga practice and put some other sleep hygiene practices in to place, I was able to say goodbye to those anti histamines (Fenergen then Polaramine after that). I rarely have coffee now

I'm so glad I gained this knowledge and put it into practice. Many women once they hit their 40s and head into perimenopause start to suffer from sleep issues due to hormonal changes. If this is you, I feel you as I'm 42 now.
Then, menopause happens and it can often get worse. Lucky us!
