My Travel Essentials
Aug 28, 2023I recently went on a 12 day cruise to the South Pacific. Most would assume I would have packed my yoga mat since I have a consistent daily yoga practice. The truth is I didn’t. My travel yoga mat is actually living in my infrared sauna at the moment. It’s a bit dirty too. Plus, I just couldn’t fit it in the suitcase. Luckily, I didn’t need it. No yoga mat isn’t an excuse to not practice yoga.
The only asanas (postures) that I practiced were yin and myoyin ones on the carpet. No mat required!
I did forget my yoga block (which I always use), so I bought one in Sydney. I used this, as well as pillows from the bed which can be a great substitute for yoga bolsters. I used a theraband (which is also a great prop for Pilates and barre) for my Asana practice too.
Other travel essentials are;
My yoga tune up balls (the best myofascial release balls I’ve come across);
Pilates/ barre ball (deflated) with a straw to blow it up with.
Gym shoes
Noise cancelling AirPods (essential for some meditation, self-care and breath work techniques). They are also useful if it’s noisy at night and this is preventing me getting to sleep!
Sleeping mask.
Sometimes I bring:
Half kilo dumbells
Fitness sliders
Eye pillow.
I bring the fitness equipment as physical exercise is part of my non negotiable self care plan (unless injured or really sick). Barre is my go to travel workout if I don’t have access to the gym. Luckily, I had a great gym to use on the ship!
