If it doesn't challenge you, it won't change you
Oct 23, 2023Hi fellow yoga enthusiasts and wellness seekers,
I hope this blog post finds you in good health and high spirits. I want to share with you a story of my journey towards creating my online course to improve mental health through yoga. It's been an incredible learning curve, one that has not only tested my computer skills but also my self-belief, patience, determination, willpower, and perseverance – qualities that my yoga practice has beautifully nurtured.
Building this course has been an adventure in every sense of the word. You see, I'm not a tech wizard by any means. I come from a background of yoga and wellness coaching, and the digital world seemed like uncharted territory for me. I had to navigate through the complex world of online course creation, recording, editing videos, setting up a website, and even mastering social media marketing. It wasn't easy, but it was a challenge that I was determined to conquer. I am also lucky that my step son who is currently living with is, has great tech skills and has helped me out. I am grateful for this.
But as I grappled with learning new computer skills, there were moments when I wondered why I had embarked on this journey. I realised that if creating an online course to improve mental health through yoga was straightforward, every yoga teacher who had done such training and had my passion to help others with their mental health would be doing it. But then it dawned on me that, just like the yoga practice itself, the beauty lies in the journey, in the process of growth and self-improvement.
As Fred DeVito said, 'if it doesn't challenge you, it won't change you'.
My years of practicing and teaching yoga have taught me invaluable lessons that I could apply to this endeavor. It's astonishing how the principles I've learned on the mat have transcended into my everyday life. Yoga has been my guiding light in times of doubt and frustration, reminding me that it's okay to be a beginner and that growth comes from embracing discomfort.
My practice has helped in the following ways:
Self-belief - Yoga has helped me believe in myself, in my capacity to learn and adapt. It has shown me that we all have an inner strength that, when harnessed, can move mountains.
Patience - The yoga mat has been my sanctuary for cultivating patience. Building this course required a lot of trial and error, and I've come to understand that impatience only hinders progress. Patience is indeed a virtue.
Determination - Yoga has given me the determination to persevere, even when faced with challenges. It reminds me that success is often just one more breath or one more attempt away.
Willpower - The discipline cultivated through yoga has been instrumental in staying focused on the course creation journey. The willpower I've developed in my practice has helped me stay committed to my goal.
Perseverance - Yoga has shown me that every practice is an opportunity to persevere through discomfort and emerge stronger. This lesson has been a powerful motivator when faced with obstacles in creating the course.
Like all of you, I'm on a continuous journey of self-improvement. Building this mental health yoga course has been a testament to that journey, a reminder that growth is ongoing, and it's often found in the most unexpected places.
So, as I continue running this first round, I want to thank the people who have taken part. It's an honour and privilege to help guide you through this part of your own journey.
Stay tuned for more updates, and remember that your journey of self-improvement is unique and beautiful. Embrace the learning curve, just as I have, and let it be the stepping stone towards a better you.
With gratitude and warm wishes,
Liz
