The Essential Nature of Self-Care: Pausing to Reflect and Grow

#perseverance #reflection #selfcare Feb 22, 2024

Hi Wellness Warriors,

In the fast-paced world we live in, the idea of pausing often feels like a luxury we can't afford. My mission has always been to guide others toward a path of balance, health, and inner peace. Today, I find myself standing at a crossroads. Embodying the very teachings I've shared with countless students: the imperative of self-care.

After much reflection, I've made the heartfelt decision to postpone the next round of my 12-week online coaching course. I was going to run it in February, then the fire happened. I didn't realise the emotional drain it would cause. Not to mention the time involved.

I didn't realise the smoke would make its way through the whole house. Even on the good side in rooms that had doors closed. My ensuite is black!
The past 5 or so weeks have unfolded in ways I could never have anticipated.

The process of salvaging what remains. I've lost count of the loads of washing I've done. The amount of times I've soaked clothes and other items. I've used white vinegar, bi-carb soda, water and essential oils. I am delighted at the transformation in some items of contents. I'm so glad I didn't hastily just throw them out. Instead I experimented and persevered with saving items. If you're ever in this position, I encourage you to try as well.

It's also caused me to consider what I actually need to replace. I've got less clutter which is simple. It's also easier to find things. It reduced anxiety and overwhelm.

Emptying out the old to make way for the new.

Transitioning into a different living space has been time consuming. I'm so grateful we were able to get accommodation reasonably quickly.  Plus the importance of presence.

The time spent negotiating with the insurance companies , lease agent, landlord and prospective builders.

I plan to offer my online 12 week coaching course again in 2025. If not, a shorter version.

This decision did not come lightly.  But rooted in a deep commitment to the principle that self-care is not selfish. it is, in fact, essential.

This period has highlighted the value of family time. Particularly with my 4-year-old, who was asleep when the fire broke out late at night. These moments,  have underscored the necessity of prioritising the well-being of myself and my loved ones.

In the interim, my commitment to growth and learning remains unwavering. I'm still coaching clients online, at a reduced rate.

I will be dedicating this time to further my training in yoga therapy. I am doing another myofascial release training this time with Yoga Tune Up®. This exciting venture is not a detour but a deepening of my practice and expertise. The knowledge and skills I will acquire are not just for my benefit. but are seeds that will bear fruit in the enhanced quality and depth of the courses I offer. Including the next round of my coaching course.

This pause is also an opportunity to develop more online courses. Expanding the ways in which I can support and empower others on their wellness journeys. The essence of yoga and holistic wellness is the integration of learning, growth, and healing. Not just as concepts but as lived experiences.

I share this decision with you not only as an update but as a reminder of the power and necessity of self-care. It is a testament to my beliefs. Taking time to heal, to grow, and to be with family is not an act of selfishness but one of profound strength and wisdom. It is a living example of the teachings I hold dear. An invitation to embrace the slow, the gentle, and the reflective spaces of life. I'm grateful I am in the position to do this. Many aren't.

As I look forward to the future, it comes with the understanding that the path to wellness is both communal and personal. It is a journey that honours the ebbs and flows. The cycles of action and rest, and the transformative power of self-care.

Thank you for your understanding, support, and shared commitment to wellness. I am eager to embark on this period of growth and renewal.  I look forward to returning with renewed energy and insights. To make my coaching even more impactful.

I encourage each of you to find moments for your own self-care. To listen to your needs, and to honour the essential nature of rest and rejuvenation in your lives.

With warmth and gratitude,

Liz
