A Regular Yoga Practice is Possible Despite Lack of Time
Aug 21, 2023I conducted a market research survey in May 2023 as I started to plan my 12 week online coaching program. One of the biggest barriers was lack of time.
I get it!
It takes time to drive to a yoga class. Then do the 45 - 90 minute class drive home and shower. What most people don’t realise is that you don’t have to go to a yoga class to practice yoga. Yes, going to a class is wonderful, if you find a style that resonates. Plus a teacher you like. In addition to a studio that’s not too far away and has adequate parking. Since covid there are less studios around per head of population in many cities, including here in Melbourne, so it’s less likely to be nearby, thus convenient and more time consuming. I saw this when I worked at Flex Lynbrook and it closed down which was heart breaking for the community and owners (not to mention us instructors) as there wasn’t anything like it nearby.
But the problem is, you have to fit your schedule around that class. If you have your own daily practice, you fit your practice around your schedule. So it’s much more flexible to have your own practice and less time consuming. Plus the practice doesn’t have to go for 45 - 90 minutes. It could even be divided up through out out the day depending on what your needs are. So it’s more time efficient.
The people who are aware of the possibilities of a home practice often don’t know where to start. They don’t know what they need the most. It’s overwhelming. I wouldn’t know either without all the training I’ve done and the experience that has come along with it.
I studied with Dr Timothy McCall’s in 2019. He is a world renowned yoga therapist and MD. In his Yoga as Medicine Training he emphasised that a short daily practice tailored to the needs of the individual has been proven to be more effective than going to a 60 minute yoga class 2 - 3 times per week. This is due to the neuroplasticity of the brain. Hence, another bonus, it’s more powerful!
I used to rely on going to a yoga class 3 -6 days per week for my mental health (as well as my physical health). even when I first started teaching. Once I completed my first yoga therapy training in 2013, I started to think outside the square, this was further enhanced by my yin training and additional therapy training. This was especially useful in lockdown and now that I have a young child and am often teaching when classes are on, it’s much harder to get to classes and I like to spend as much time with my family as possible.
The good news is, I am going to be sharing this knowledge I’ve gathered with a program designed to teach you all of this. My 12 week online coaching program launches on Monday 16 October 2023. Free Introductory calls will be opening up on 20th September to have a chat and see if this course is the right fit for you.
